Background
In April 2026, Leicester City Council deployed a VidAlert Mobile Enforcement Vehicle (MEV) to strengthen the enforcement of parking and traffic restrictions across the city. Equipped with intelligent camera technology and an integrated evidence-processing platform, the solution enables the capture of highly accurate evidence, supporting faster, more efficient and more reliable enforcement.
Challenge
Illegal parking at key locations, including Red Routes, Bus Stop Clearways and School Keep Clears, was impacting road safety, accessibility and traffic flow throughout Leicester. The Council required a smarter enforcement solution that could improve operational efficiency while encouraging greater compliance with traffic regulations.
Solution
VidAlert’s Mobile Enforcement Vehicle combines advanced camera technology with an integrated evidence-management platform to detect and record parking and traffic contraventions. The system captures clear, indisputable evidence in a single pass, reducing operational demands and enabling a more streamlined, evidence-led enforcement process.
“The Leicester MEV is equipped with the latest VidAlert mobile enforcement technology and is performing incredibly well. It captures highly accurate, indisputable evidence of parking and traffic offences without needing multiple passes, helping make our roads safer and more compliant. The seamless integration between the VidAlert camera and evidence-processing system makes it an efficient tool that is directly helping us tackle illegal parking across the city”.
Outcomes
During the first three months of operation, the solution delivered strong and measurable results, demonstrating the effectiveness of targeted mobile enforcement. A total of 4,373 Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) were issued across 91 locations and three priority restrictions, including Red Routes, Bus Stop Clearways and School Keep Clears, helping Leicester City Council address non-compliance at some of its most critical locations.
Since its introduction, the VidAlert Mobile Enforcement Vehicle has significantly strengthened the Council’s ability to deliver efficient, intelligence-led enforcement. By improving compliance, enhancing road safety, and protecting access for public transport, schools, and vulnerable road users, the solution has helped create safer, more accessible streets while supporting Leicester City Council’s wider ambition to maintain a well-managed, resilient road network for all.
